Information for Hotels in Australia
Australian hotel accommodation is available where ever and when ever you need it. It comes in a huge range of standards and there are a number of hotel chains that provide hotel style accommodation at the same standard throughout the country. All of the major cities and country towns are well serviced and in the resort areas there is so much to choose from that it can become confusing. The major cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Darwin, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart all have hotels that are part of different chains. The larger chains may have many hotels in different suburbs of each city. In the larger cities it can be helpful to stay in an area that is close to public transport so you can get to the major tourist attractions easily. Just remember that hotels located within the CBD area are usually more expensive.
Some of the major hotel chains have sub chains that provide accommodation at different level. For example, the Accor group, which is the largest in Australia has multi level groups. These start at the Formulae 1 group which provides basic rooms with absolutely no frills. You get a bed, a shower and toilet, a chair and a small tv and that’s about it. It is however very reasonably priced and these hotels are well located close to major airports and city areas and they are great for one night stays while you are in transit. The next Accor level is the Ibis hotel range. Once again, these are conveniently located. The rooms are larger and better appointed and there is and on site restaurant. The Mercure hotel group is Accor’s middle of the range product and then they have a five star level above that which include the Sofitel and Novotel range. Intercontinental Hotels have a wide range as do Rydges Hotels, Rendezvous hotels and Voyages Hotels.
There are also many smaller chains and boutique hotels available. In the resort areas like the Whitsundays, some of the island resorts have magnificent hotels. The Reef View Hotel on Hamilton Island is one of these and there are many others. Coastal resort towns and cities like Cairns, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast have many great hotels to cater for the huge influx of tourists that flock there for their annual holidays or for conferences and the like.
