The Northern Territory is one of Australia's greatest international tourist draw cards. Hotel accommodation exists throughout the state and caters for the millions of tourists who come to see such fantastic attractions as Ayers Rock, The Olga's, Kings Canyon, Darwin, Alice Springs, Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park and Katherine Gorge. The Great Australian Outback is the heart of the country and it is known as the red center. Here, distances are vast and everything is about as remote as any place on earth. Vast deserts, saltbush country and spectacular dry mountain ranges dominate the landscape. It is a place unlike anything anywhere else on the planet. Air travel in the Northern Territory is the most popular as it is so far from place to place. There is an international airport in Darwin and domestic airports in Alice Springs and at Ayers Rock. Light aircraft and helicopter services are available to many other centers.

Most tourists enter the Northern Territory through Darwin and it is here that you will find a modern and large hotel accommodation industry. The city lies on Australia's most northerly harbour and the city is steeped in the history of the early explorers and the second world war where Darwin was attacked and bombed by the invading Japanese armed forces. Darwin lies in a region where tropical storms or Cyclones are prevalent and on Christmas eve 1974, the city of Darwin was all but destroyed by the massive cyclone "Tracy". Since that time building standards were totally upgraded and the entire city has been rebuilt to a standard that will survive any similar event. The accommodation industry in particular has been rebuilt since that event and now boasts some of Australia's best hotel style accommodation. Most international tourists who visit the Northern Territory enter the state through Darwin and start a campervan or motorhome holiday, an organised tour or depart for other inland destinations. Because of this there is now a huge number of hotels to choose from.

In the more remote regions of the Northern Territory there is also a vibrant hotel industry that caters for the Tourist trade. Kakadu National Park has several hotels and resorts where you can stay while exploring the region. Alice Springs now has a huge accommodation industry and there are plenty of international standard hotels to choose from in this remote but bustling town. The major tourist destinations of Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock are similarly catered for with a selection of fantastic hotels and resorts to stay at. Ayers Rock Resort has accommodation that ranges from backpacker level, right through to magnificent five star hotels like "Sails in the Desert" and others of different standards that include the "Outback Pioneer hotel", the "Desert Gardens Hotel", the "Lost Camel Hotel and Longitude 131 Hotel.

No matter where you choose to visit in the Northern Territory, you can rest assured you will be able to find excellent hotel accommodation.
