Queensland's Whitsundays region is one of Australia's most picturesque holiday playgrounds and has some of its best hotels and island resorts. The Whitsundays region consists of the coastal towns and cities of Mackay and Airlie Beach and the 74 islands that make up the archipelago of the Whitsunday passage. Embedded in these islands and waterways are the island resorts on Hayman Island, Hamilton Island, Brampton Island, Daydream Island and Long Island and each of these has its own individual charm and attractions. Mackay is a commercial city and provides the business backup that drives the tourism industry and the local mining industries. Airlie Beach is the mainland base for all the aquatic tours and ferry services that provide the transfers and logistics that make the Whitsunday Island resorts viable. Airlie Beach is also an accommodation resort town in its own right and has many beautiful hotels and resorts that cater for the mainland tourism trade.

Among the islands in the region are many that are world famous. Hamilton Island is the largest and has the most developed infrastructure. It is really like a small holiday town set on an island than just an individual island resort. Hamilton Island airport is the gateway through which the majority of visitors come to the Whitsundays region and it is only a short ride from the airport to the Reef View Hotel to check in. The Beach Club hotel, Qualia Resort, the Hamilton Island Yacht Club Villas and the Whitsunday Holiday Apartments make up the bulk of the hotel and apartment style accommodation on Hamilton island.

The other island resorts in the Whitsundays region can all be reached by ferry services from either Hamilton Island or Airlie Beach. Hayman Island is a member of the top 100 hotels of the world group and has a long history of providing top class hotel accommodation and service. Daydream Island is one of the most popular family hotels and is also a popular wedding location. Long Island houses three excellent hotel resorts and Brampton Island is being totally refurbished as of 2010
